I love fall! I think I love fall because so many important events happened in the fall. First, I was born in October, I got married in October, and I had my babies in October and November! Yep, fall is pretty special for my family. Also, I really enjoy Thanksgiving! Every year we spend it at my sister-in-law’s home and she is such an amazing cook! I look forward to our time together and all of the delicious food.
I also love the colors of fall and decorating my home so it feels nice and cozy! From the front door to the kitchen, I love to create spaces in my home that feel warm and welcoming!
I like to start with my front door! I think it is so nice to welcome everyone to your home with the colors of the season! I love my wreath, I purchased it at Pier 1 Imports many years ago and it is still in good shape! I have two old topiaries that I wrap with a string of faux fall leaves. By the way, I use the same topiaries wrapped with faux Douglas fir swags for Christmas! Finally, I add my fake large pumpkins and fun welcome sign.
This year I added this really cool motorized witch’s broom from Cracker Barrel Restaurant of all places! I got it on our summer road trip in Louisiana. I thought it was so cute but, I hope it does not scare the little trick-or-treaters too much, it moves when you walk close to it or make a sound!
I also made a really cute pumpkin floral arrangement! I was planning to do another Blooms & Bubbly floral workshop this month but time got away from me, so I decided to show you how to do it step by step here on the blog!
Steps to make the pumpkin flower arrangement:
First, get a pumpkin! Try to get a smaller one! Better yet… if you can find a foam pumpkin that is carvable then that is even better, then you don’t have to worry about the pumpkin getting moldy later!
Next, grab some grocery store flowers in your favorite colors! I like to mix and match or you can buy the pre-arranged bouquet.
You will need a large Mason jar or a wet Oasis foam for floral arrangements. You can get this at any craft store.
You will also need a knife and a spoon for scoping out the pumpkin filling. I like the one dollar pumpkin carving set at Dollar Tree. You can also get a small fake foam pumpkin there as well!
Now you are ready to begin! Cover your table top and just cut a square large enough to fit your jar or Oasis foam, then add your water to the foam or jar.
I decided to use the Mason jar instead of the Oasis foam this time. Both work well. Now arrange your flowers as you like. Cut them pretty low to be just above the pumpkin. Use greenery and low cut flowers to cover the jar. You can use tape to make a grid if you like to help keep the flowers in place. There really is no right or wrong way to arrange your flowers just do what is pleasing to the eye and looks good all the way around if it will be a centerpiece.
I was really happy with the arrangement and I decided to add it to my front porch! One word of caution, it will not last long in the heat! The pumpkin got pretty mushy in the California sun so you may want to keep an eye on it or use it as a centerpiece inside!
I hope I have given you some fall decorating ideas! If you would like to see my fall decorating video from last year checkout the video here.
