Work It Wednesday featuring Kimberly Elise Naturals

What a special Work It Wednesday post! I am so excited to share my first celebrity interview with the beautiful and talented Kimberly Elise! Many of you may know her from her outstanding lead roles in Tyler Perry’s Dairy of a Mad Black Woman, For Colored Girls, Set It Off, and so many more! However, what you may not know is she has launched her own natural hair care line called Kimberly Elise Naturals!

I was so excited to attend her event this weekend and even more excited when I had the opportunity to interview her for the blog! I decided to be bold and step out of my comfort zone at the event by introducing myself and sharing my blog with Ms. Elise and her wonderful team! This lead to an opportunity to interview her after the event and I am so thrilled to share the interview with all of you!

Kimberly Elise was so sweet and down-to-earth! She even complimented me on my coat which I now call my “Black Girl Magic” coat as it helped me break the ice and make bold moves!

This coat is from H&M, It was only $34.99!

It was so nice of her to meet with me after speaking all afternoon to a room full of ladies. I think it just shows how passionate she is about helping other women with their hair care needs and spreading the word about her natural products.

Once she changed out of her gorgeous dress and into her “Black Girl Magic” t-shirt, we sat in the waiting area of the beautiful DreamGirls salon in the heart of Culver City. As she munched on her Vegan dish, we chatted about everything from why she started her business to how she balances her busy schedule as a mother, actress, and entrepreneur.

Tell me how you became interested in developing natural hair care products?

I have been Vegan for many years and I was looking for a hair care product that was all natural and really moisturized my hair. I could not find what worked best for my hair so I decided to create my own products.

How long did it take you to find just the right mix for your products?

I really spent a lot of time working on my product line. The Alchemy 27 Hair & Scalp Elixir took about two years to develop and the Kinky Coily Care Kit took about a year. The products are now available online and at select retailers.

How do you balance and maintain a healthy lifestyle with your busy schedule as a mother, actress, and entrepreneur ?

Now that my kids are older, I have more time to devote to my business. Kimberly Elise Naturals is now my baby! I am learning from it and watching it grow. It takes a lot of my time but, it is very rewarding just like raising kids!

What advice would you give to women over 40 who want to start their natural hair journey?

Don’t feel pressured! Going natural is a very personal journey. Take the time to educate yourself about your hair type and find supportive people who have gone through the journey. YouTube videos are helpful to see different things they are doing and to explore various products. Be patient and accept your hair for what it is, beautiful!

I want to thank Kimberly Elise for taking the time to share with Kery B.! I just love the way Black women support each other!  I look forward to trying Kimberly’s Kinky Coily Care Kit and sharing my review on the blog! Kimberly Elise has so much to offer! Checkout her website here.

Excellent post. I love the old school magazine Q&A verbatim interview style. It takes me back reading articles in Right On! and Vibe among other magazines. So proud of your bold step and the payoff. Big hugs to you, Kery B. 😉
