My word for the year is breathe and this picture from Green Tree Yoga Studio in Inglewood represents my mind, body, and hair goals all in one! She is definitely going on my vision board! Speaking of vision boards…we are halfway through the year and it’s time to revisit those vision boards. Did you do one this year? I do one every year and I am always amazed at how many things come to fruition! There is definitely power in writing down your goals and displaying them so that you can see them on a daily basis. I make my vision board the screensaver on my phone so I literally see it everyday! Here is my vision board for this year!
As I reflect on 2018, I can say this year has been a whirlwind! So many unexpected twists and turns both good and bad. My family has experienced new beginnings, loss, as well as pleasant surprises over the last six months. There have been moments that have made me hold my breath and just pray that things will be alright. It is in those moments that I remind myself to just breathe and be grateful for every day and every blessing that God has allowed me to experience. I have learned after many years of being a serious worrywart that worrying is fruitless and faith is really all we have. So I push myself to step out on faith, put a smile on my face, and keep going!
Now with that said, there are definitely days when I don’t feel like walking on the sunny side of the street ! I certainly wake up some days and say “Now this is some bull!”
But on those low days when I feel tearful instead of joyful, I revisit my vision board or my journal where I often write down things I am grateful for. This helps me to stay positive and to make time to do the things I enjoy! Usually I do something creative, like try a new recipe or do a floral arrangement and of course, blog!
I also like to read motivational books! Right now I am reading Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis
I am almost finished and while I am pass many of the “Mommy Duty” challenges she talks about as a working mom of little kids. I appreciate her honesty about life’s challenges and encouragement for working women. She has built a very successful business and this is definitively worth a read or listen!
As I settle into these “middle years” of my life where you can experience health challenges, loss of friends/family, depression, and career challenges, I find it helpful to pray often and focus on the things that bring peace to my life. I make time for family, friends, and creating great memories. At the end of the day, the things that matter are not things at all.
So this is how I try to stay positive on this roller coaster of life! I hope that this post is a little “pick me up” in case you needed it! I think this post was more of a “note to self” so thanks for being my listening ear! Now let’s just breathe and continue to live our best lives!
Stay busy being fabulous,
Kery B.
