The Top Five Things I Am Looking Forward To This Summer

Hey Friends,

I am definitely in a summertime state of mind, even though I am not on vacation yet! The weather is gorgeous here in Los Angeles and I can’t wait for the long lazy days of summer. Last year at this time we were deep into lockdown and although vacation plans were canceled, I enjoyed spending quality time with my family in the backyard. This summer will not be much different. We have a few quick trips planned but mostly we will be chilling and enjoy things around town. Here are my top five things I am looking forward to this summer:

One: Summer Reading!! There is just something about enjoying a book in the summertime. Whether you are at the beach or just resting at home. I love a good summer book to dive into!

I like to keep my summer reading light and fun. Also, I always enjoy a good mystery. I usually head to Barnes and Noble or my local bookstore and browse the bestseller lists and recommendations. I know that it is probably easier to buy books online but, there is nothing like a good old fashion bookstore.

There are so few bookstores left nowadays but surprising, one just opened close to my neighborhood! It is called The Book Jewel located in Westchester, CA not far from LAX. I enjoyed walking around and exploring the store. I loved the vibe and the staff was very helpful and friendly. If you get a chance, check them out! Link, here.

I am excited for my bookclub this week to discuss the novel Summer on the Bluffs by Sunny Hostin. It was a good book and it reminded me of my first trip to Martha’s Vineyard. I can’t wait to go back there someday. Looking forward to sharing some pictures and thoughts from our bookclub outing, so stay tuned!

Two: Summer Sundresses! I live in sundresses in the summer! I love the easy breezy feel of sundresses and they are just so comfortable! You can dress them up or down, from day to warm summer nights, they just work! Here are a few that I have been sharing on Instagram. Also, check out my last posts for more summer looks as well.

Three: Summer Concerts! I love going to concerts! My favorite venue is The Hollywood Bowl! It is just a whole summer vibe! I am so excited that they are opening their door again this summer! No Playboy Jazz Festival this year but, there are several great concerts coming up!

I will be there for the D-Nice concert in August! The line-up looks great and he was such a saving grace this past year with his Club Quarantine, it will be great to see him in person! I believe the tickets are sold out. However, you can checkout other concerts coming to the bowl on their website, here.

Four: Summer Vacation! I really enjoy traveling and it was so wonderful to kick-off my summer travels with a trip to Arkansas for my grandmother’s 100th Birthday! Yep, she is 100 years young and she looks great! My sister and I surprised her and flew down for the party. She was so surprised and it was great seeing my Arkansas family.

Next up will be a little trip to Cabo! I love a great sun and sand vacation but, it will be hard to top our trip to see Grandma Emily, priceless!

Five: Summer food! I really enjoy eating lighter in the summer. I use my grill often and eat a lot of salads and fruit. Lately, my favorite salad is the Kale Caesar Salad from Sweetgreen. It is filling and not too bad on calories even with the dressing! Also, my refrigerator is full of fruits and veggies which is really helping with my healthier eating plan. What are some of your summer favorites? Let me know in the comments.

I am also enjoying walking and exercising more. The long days help keep me motivated to workout more and enjoy a nice stroll on the beach or around the neighborhood. Getting in shape is definitely a goal this summer!

So, those are the top five things I am looking forward to this summer. What’s on your list? Let me know in the comments. Until next time…

Stay busy being fabulous,

Kery B.
