Time To Work On Your New Vision!

my new vision

Now is the perfect time to work on your new vision! As we near the end of the year, this is the time to create the vision you want for yourself in the new year. A few years ago I attended Oprah’s The Life You Want Weekend.

It was such an amazing experience! We had so much fun! It was motivational and really life changing for me because it was there that I really started to understand the power of vision and focusing on what is really important in life.  I started to reflect on the things I had accomplished, the blessings I had received, and the things I still wanted to do. I started to think about my goals and dreams for the upcoming year. I am not sure if Oprah will have another tour soon, but if she does, I would highly recommend attending. It was an awesome experience!

Now I make it a point to spend time reflecting on my goals and creating a vision board each year.  I usually start with writing my thoughts in a journal. When I need to work through something, writing down my thoughts really helps.

As I sit here reflecting on life, politics, society, and trying to escape from reality for a minute, I realize that you can really create your own reality-creative expression is a way to make your own reality. Channeling your energy into something positive and creative is a great way to relieve stress. A nice glass of wine doesn’t hurt either, LOL! Loving my “happy girls” wine glass!

I find that I am most creative and relaxed when I am in a beautiful setting- a tranquil place to just think. So I am sitting here at a beautiful restaurant patio in Manhattan Beach. The weather is 75 degrees on this November evening so it feels like a nice summer night-gotta love this Southern California weather! There is a pond flowing near the patio, so the sound of the water flowing is just what I need to calm my nerves. You see…I am still feeling a little numb today as I face the reality that we are headed for a major shift in our country. I am feeling fear and uncertainty.  I am looking for a new direction-a new vision!

As our President said, “The sun will rise.”  He is right, as I drove here the cars were still on the road-stuck in traffic, LOL! The airplanes were still in the air, people were still shopping, and I was still able to “escape” to my getaway spot! I guess it comes down to what we do moving forward.  My hope is that we can all continue to fight for what we believe in. I think that the question really is…what do you believe in? What is your vision? What do you want to see in your future? This is where you start with your new vision. Don’t just say it… start doing it!

Here is where you start:  After you have written down your thoughts and ideas. Get some magazines and cut out pictures, images, and words that reflect your hopes and dreams. See my previous post on vision boards here for ideas.

Choose your word for the year. Last year my word was Brave. my vision board reflected all the things I wanted to do but, was a little afraid to try. I was determined to conquer my fears and be brave! As I reflect on the year, I believe I was able to do just that!  I started this blog, I traveled, I learned new technology, I stepped out on faith and left a “secure” job to pursue a new opportunity. I was brave and I have no regrets!  Each brave step opened a door to an opportunity that I did not know existed. I definitely learned that sometimes you have to let go to gain more.

As I sat there on the patio still feeling anxious and fearful, I glanced at my cellphone where I keep a screenshot of my vision board. As I looked at the image of my vision board, I realized that I had forgotten what I put at the top of the board!  The answer I had been searching for, my “new” direction was right there all along…it was faith!

Faith has been my constant guide. It has been there with me through thick and thin like a steadfast friend. My new word for this year will be FAITH. I will have a stronger faith in God, faith in myself, faith that despite changes in society we will be able to accomplish our hopes and dreams. Faith that it will be alright!

I really encourage you to create your own vision board. You can even throw a vision board party and get together with your friends and make it a fun activity!  Hey, that is not a bad idea, I just might do that this year!  Would you be interested in coming? You know I like to plan a party, LOL! Let me know in the comments! In the meantime, stay positive, stay focused on your goals, and of course…Stay busy being fabulous!

Hi Kery. I love the idea of having a snapshot of your vision board on your phone. I believe in Vision Boards. I completed one when I started grad school. And I recently completed another one since branching out on my own as a consultant. I’m going to take s picture of my Vision Board today – it’ll be my new wallpaper. Great ideas!

How exciting that you were able to attend Oprah’s weekend event. How empowering. I’m not far from you in the Valley and feeling emotional as well. Thank goodness we’re here in California. Stay strong and dream big. What you think about, you bring about.

I recently created a new vision board, but creating a new one might just be what I need to help me determine what I can do to help move our country in a better direction!
