My Natural Hair Journey Year One Update!

A look back at my natural hair journey!

It is hard to believe that it has been a little over a year since my big chop on August 30, 2015! There have been a lot of fears, tears, and twists (literally) along the way. Sometimes when I need a little motivation to keep up my hair routine, I take a look at my pictures and I am encouraged by the growth and improvement in the health of my hair. I found this picture of my hair a few months before I decided to cut it off! Continue reading

How I protect my skin with UNSUN

A few weeks ago I visited two very hot spots-Las Vegas and Palm Springs! The temperature was well over 100 degrees in both places and the sun was super bright! I was so glad I had UNSUN-a mineral based sunscreen designed for all skin types. I was given the product to try and share my opinion on my blog.UNSUNI know that I should use sunscreen to protect my skin from the damaging effects of the sun. However, I hate to use it on my face because of the oily white residue it leaves behind. Fortunately, UNSUN is a tinted facial sunscreen that goes on smooth and blends in without leaving a white residue even on my darker skin tone. Continue reading

Natural Hair After 40

There is so much to discuss when it comes to hair! I could do several posts on just this topic alone. There are hundreds of blogs and videos dedicated to talking about natural hair; although, there is not as much information on natural hair AFTER 40. There are definitely some unique challenges we face with our hair as we age. While I am certainly not an expert on natural hair, I can share my experiences and challenges I have faced going natural after 40.

About a year ago, out of frustration with my thinning damaged and relaxed hair I decided to do the “Big Chop” and cut off all of my permed hair. Continue reading

My Favorite Five Things for Skin Care

My Favorite Five Things for Skin Care- Part I

I was never a beauty product gal, I was more of a soap and water kinda chick! However, over the last few years I feel like my skin and hair care needs are definitely changing. I find myself browsing the beauty aisle a lot more and looking for products that will work to keep my skin and hair healthy. Luckily, my skin is not too sensitive so I am able to experiment with different products. However, everyone’s skin is different so you definitely have to find what works for you. I started experimenting  with a few tips from my dermatologist then I went to ULTA beauty to browse their hugh selection of products.

Favorite Things Skincare

I am often asked about my skincare routine and I wanted to update you on my natural hair journey.  I thought I would share some of my favorite products in a three part series on skin, natural hair, and make-up. Continue reading

So I was in JoAnn Fabric store looking at zippers, needles, and sewing stuff (I am ready to get back to my sewing projects this summer!)  when I overheard this cute little girl tell her father, “That lady is growing a beard.” Now, I immediately looked up and saw a lady leaving the aisle and I thought to myself…Boy, kids say the darnedest things but they are so honest! I was also thinking, dang!  I just missed this lady… I kinda wanted to see what she was talking about…don’t judge me! Continue reading

my daughter came home briefly for Spring break and let me know that I was sleeping again! In other words, I was missing out! A few months ago I shared that I was “sleep” on Sugar Scrub Sundays-see post here, now apparently I have been missing out on Lush-homemade cosmetics store! Have you been to a Lush Store before? I passed by the store in the mall many times but never stopped in. This time we decided to stop by…OMG! What a great experience! They took me on a tour of all their bath products and cosmetics! Everything is made by hand with natural ingredients. Continue reading
