That Lady is Growing a Beard

That lady is growing a beard??

So I was in JoAnn Fabric store looking at zippers, needles, and sewing stuff (I am ready to get back to my sewing projects this summer!)  when I overheard this cute little girl tell her father, “That lady is growing a beard.” Now, I immediately looked up and saw a lady leaving the aisle and I thought to myself…Boy, kids say the darnedest things but they are so honest! I was also thinking, dang!  I just missed this lady… I kinda wanted to see what she was talking about…don’t judge me! Anyway, the father was great and quietly explained to his daughter that it was not nice to say things like that and how we should not talk about people. I thought to myself, what a great teachable moment and  I walked away grinning to myself.

Fast forward to later that evening…I was getting ready for bed. I brushed my teeth and was about to wash my face when I noticed that my chin felt kinda rough, I got closer to the mirror and I was appalled to see a bunch of little chin hairs and practically whiskers on each side of my mouth. WHAT IN THE WORLD! I thought, where did all of these chin hairs come from??
Are you kiddin’ me! After the initial shock, my mind finally clicks and I scream OMG… I am the lady who is growing a beard!!!

At this point, I grabbed my tweezers and started plucking away! All I could think was, how long have I been walking around with a beard?? Some days, this getting older stuff is for the birds! When I was younger, I never worried about facial hair. Now I have to carry a pair of tweezers in my purse at all times!! Here I am doing everything to try and grow the hair on my head and at the same time, I can’t seem to keep the hair off my face! This is crazy!

Well, now I had a decision to make. I could either laugh or cry…I chose to laugh until I cried, LOL! Then I decided, what the heck…I will blog about it ! Maybe I am not the only one experiencing  midlife mishaps!  Women go through so much as we age! It can make you think you are the only one experiencing crazy changes. I think it is good to share and keep a good sense of humor to make it through life sometimes.

A few months ago I attended a conference in Las Vegas and after a long day of meetings, I decided to checkout the play Menopause The Musical!

Hey, I figured my hubby would not mind missing this Vegas show LOL!  I had heard it was funny but really did not know what to expect. Turns out it was hilarious!!  Clearly, I am not alone in “the change” and by the end of the play the whole cast felt like your girlfriends. Even the guys in the audience enjoyed it!

I can say these last few years have been interesting! Thank goodness most of my girlfriends are experiencing the same things.  “Hot topics” at book club have changed from celebrity gossip to talking about cute reading glasses, where to buy a purse fan, and the best products for gray hair coverage!  Hey, we look great and we are still hot …it just comes in flashes, LOL!

I figure if you are blessed to grow old, then you might as well do it in style!

So I decided that if I have to carry tweezers in my purse they should  be cute!

In addition, I plan to head straight to my favorite waxing salon Queen Bee and treat myself to a nice facial. Hey, when life throws you lemons head to the spa!

Very funny and so true. I feel your pain. I was just speaking to my friend yesterday about the changes. We agreed we should poll our other friends to see if they are experiences similar things. You just helped to validate what we are going through. Thanks for your honesty and for sharing.

I laughed! Thanks for sharing your experience. I, too, have been plucking chin whiskers for the past 4 years… I haven’t begfun carrying tweezers in my purse, but I know I am overdue for a facial. Where is this Queen Bee spa? I like to keep my options open. Happy summer!

LMBOOOOFFFF! Yes, I too have a couple of hair buddies that pop up under my chin now and then. I usually spend time as I’m driving pulling them out! Not an easy task! They are like an unwanted house guest who won’t leave!! Glad to know I’m not alone!
I saw Menopause The Musical years ago. It was indeed hilarious!

    Keep blogging! I’m loving it!

Silly question but I need help 🙂 You get a chin wax with the facial or just a facial?

I get my eyebrows, lip, and chin waxed at my nail shop. Then I go to Queen Bee or Burke Williams for the facial but I could probably do the waxing and facial together. I will ask next time I go. Good question 😊

Unfortunately this is something that I have dealt with since I was a teenager but now that I see that everyone else is dealing with it at my age it doesn’t feel so bad. The only good thing about it now is that they’re much easier to see since they’re turning gray. Lol!!!
    Great topic, thanks for sharing.

Thank you for this…it’s tough being a woman sometimes. How come those who are in your intimate space never noticed? It was funny, just what I needed.
