This is a special Work it Wednesday post. Today I am featuring my first sewing project! I made my own African skirt! It took me a looong time but I finally got it right and here it is!
My sewing class gave me the basics I needed to start. However, I found a great video on YouTube that walked me through the process. I have to admit, making gathers is not easy the first time. I had to try it a few times before I got it right. The fabric came from Africa By the Yard ( Store information is in my last post).
After buying a few items like thread and interface for the waistband, I was ready to go! I am so excited that it actually fits and I really saved money. My other African skirt cost about $80.00, this skirt cost me $25.00 to make! I think it was worth an afternoon of trying something new. If you put your mind to it…you can do it! I can’t wait to make another skirt. Here is the link to the DIY Gathered Skirt Video. There are so many how to videos available on sewing. I look forward to learning more and sharing my projects with you!
Stay busy being fabulous,
