On August 30, 2015, I did the “Big Chop”- I cut off all my damaged thinning permed hair and decided to go natural. I must say, it has been such a learning process. I am reading books, watching videos, going to natural hair conferences, and experimenting with lots of products. There is so much information out there now. I will share some of my favorite books and products in another post.
Honestly, it takes a lot of work to look like “I woke up like this.” LOL However, my hair is much healthier, thicker, it’s growing and I feel so confident! Sometimes in life you have to let go to gain more.
After 15 years, I finally updated my den! Every time I would try to buy a new couch my family would say, “Noooooo….we love that couch, it is so comfortable!” Never mind that it was a hazard! Continue reading →
Flannel shirt-Forever 21, White t-shirt-Target, Jeans-New York & Company, Gray booties-Crown Vintage via DSW, Handbag-Junior Drake
The flannel shirt is everywhere this season. It is okay to be a little trendy and hip sometimes. The flannels are inexpensive and so comfortable! I prefer to wear it as a little cover-up. However, you can tie them around your waist or just rock it as a button down. Go ahead and be a little edgy!
Faux fur vest (with pockets, yeah!) and sweater from Banana Republic, Jeans- New York and Company (super comfortable with just the right stretch) Shoes-Tory Burch, Handbag- Marshalls (it was only $25 y’all )
I can’t tell you how many times I would put something back on the rack because I said to myself, “Where am I going to wear that?” Well, now when I find something fabulous I just say, “I’ll wear it to book club!” LOL Just wear what makes you feel great! I love my book club and have enjoyed being a part of it for the past 12 years. We laugh, eat, sip wine, and oh yeah…talk about the book. I highly recommend having a circle of girlfriends you enjoy being around. Laughter is good for the soul and gives you an excuse to wear the fur and anything else you love!
I am big on vision boards to visualize my goals for the New Year. Last year I attended a workshop on goal setting and starting the year off right. In the workshop, we had to choose a word for the year that described our focus and goals. We even chose our own “theme song” to remind us of our motivation to stay focused throughout the year. This year, my word is “Brave”. I have always viewed myself as not very “techie” and I decided that I would challenge myself to be brave and learn new things. Hence, the blog -LOL. I have learned so much about myself in the last year. I am doing things I never thought I would do like: starting my natural hair journey (I’ll keep you posted!), leaving my job of 20+ years, and being more “tech-savvy”. I think about my childhood, motherhood, career and now this next phase as I quickly approach the big 5-0! I have decided to be brave and to do it in style! Lookout 2016 here I come!!
This is my vision board for the new year, I use it as a screensaver on my cellphone so that I see it everyday.
